Settlemier House:

The Settlemier House is a 5,000 square foot Victorian-Craftsman home located on nearly three acres of landscaped grounds in Woodburn, Oregon. This 12-room house was built during 1891-1892 by Jesse Settlemier, founder of the City of Woodburn, at a cost of about $10,000. The house is no longer inhabited, but is open to the public as a museum. The building was closed, so we only visited the grounds (Rating = C+).

Jesse Settlemier, one of Oregon's pioneer nurserymen, was born in Illinois in 1840. He came west over the Old Oregon Wagon Trail with his parents in 1849. News of the California Gold Strike turned the Settlemiers south to Sacramento, California. Unhappy with California, the family soon took passage on a sailing ship to Oregon. Settlemier's father was a nurseryman, and at the age of 19 Jesse, with two of his brothers, followed their father's footsteps and started a nursery near Tangent, Oregon.
