Patterson Bridge
The Isaac Lee Patterson Bridge, also known as the Rogue River Bridge, was completed in 1932. This concrete arch bridge spans the Rogue River connecting the towns of Gold Beach and Wedderburn. The detailing of the bridge incorporates Art Deco design. Prominent pylons at the ends of the bridge feature Moderne elements and stylized Palladian windows crowned by sunbursts.

The Patterson Bridge is one of a series of notable bridges designed by Conde McCullough for the Oregon Coast Highway in the 1930s. In 1982 Patterson Bridge was designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. While McCullough's earlier bridge designs used Classical Revival design elements, the later bridges, such as the Patterson Bridge, adapted elements from the Art Deco and Streamline Moderne styles.
The Patterson bridge was the first in the United States to use the Freyssinet method of arch stress control. This led to the widespread use of prestressing techniques in erecting concrete arches.
Astoria Connection:
The first bridge that Conde McCullough designed was the Old Youngs Bay Bridge in Astoria, Oregon. This vertical-lift bridge was completed in 1921. The Old Youngs Bay Bridge features early versions of McCullough's signature accent elements, with Art Moderne concrete pylons topped by light fixtures flanking the landings at either end of the bridge.
