Our car needed servicing, and Monday was a holiday, so we stayed three nights in Twin Falls (3,700 ft elevation). Ortario, OR 2,150 ft elevation Best food was a dinner of filet mignon and Idaho baked potato at Jakers Bar & Grill. High temperatures on September 4th were 97 degrees (Fahrenheit). There was so much smoke in the air from wildfires that temperatures cooled to 90 degrees on September 5th.

BASE Jumpers
The Perrine Memorial Bridge spans the majestic Snake River Canyon on the northern edge of Twin Falls. The bridge is 1,500 feet long, with a deck height of 486 feet above the Snake River. It is the eighth highest bridge in the United States. BASE jumpers enjoy the Perrine Bridge year-round as the launching point for parachuting to the canyon floor below. BASE is an acronym which stands for Building, Antenna, Span and Earth. These four categories relate to the types of exit points most typically used by BASE jumpers. Jumping off the bridge is incredible, but I was more impressed that after a jump, the jumpers would climb, up and up and up, from the river to the bridge deck to jump again and again.

Parallel Lines
Afternoon sunlight on Perrine Memorial Bridge and Snake River Gorge. The Perrine Bridge is a four-lane truss arch span that carries U.S. Highway 93 over the Snake River Canyon.

Orange-Red Sun Amid Smokey Skies
Location: Perrine Memorial Bridge and Snake River Gorge viewing area. Smoke from raging wildfires fires in Montana left a thick layer of haze over the Twin Falls area creating a sun glowing with a red-orange hue.
