Two-lane U.S. Highway 20 connects Ontario and Bend. The drive from Ontario (2,200 ft elevation) to Bend (3,600 ft elevation) travels through Stinkingwater Pass (4,800 ft elevation) and Drinkwater Pass (4,200 ft elevation). The highest temperature today was 86 degrees Fahrenheit. As we left Ontario, the skies were still smokey from the regional forest fires that have darkened the skies for days. Finally relief! As we approached the town of Riley, rain showers cleared the smokey skies. We even saw some blue sky.
