After arriving in Gunnison, we took a quick twenty-eight mile side trip north to Crested Butte. Crested Butte, a former coal mining town, is called "the last great Colorado ski town". Crested Butte is a popular destination for skiing, mountain biking, and a variety of other outdoor activities. Like most ski areas, summer views of the beautiful neighboring mountains are disfigured by ugly ski runs.
